About RSPCA East Somerset
This independent branch was started in 1974. It covers an area encompassing Henstridge, Yeovil, Crewkerne, Langport, Somerton, Street, Glastonbury, Shepton Mallet and Wincanton including Castle Cary and other towns and villages within that perimeter.
We do not have an animal centre but use fosterers for a small number of animals before getting them ready, neutering and vaccinating, for surrounding branches to rehome.
Instead we run drop in days for the travelling and Gypsy communities and even do doorstep care for the more house bound or other animals in need and of course give financial support to animals identified by the Inspectorate.
We undertake contributions toward veterinary care for stray animals in need and ensure unwanted animals do not suffer but are offered the best possible chance for the future.
We undertake trapping, health checks and neutering for feral colonies of cats whenever possible.
We support our main Society by helping to promote the aims through education, campaigning and all other positive animal welfare.
Pet Retreat
A project run by the South West Region of the Society but covering much of the country. Dedicated staff man the phones to take calls from families suffering from domestic abuse and afraid to leave the situation in case their animals are injured or killed. Our Regional team give advice and liaise with the local refuges to ensure the animals are taken into protective care when the family are given shelter.
Vet Assistance
For people within our area and usually on low incomes identified by being in receipt of job seekers allowance, pension credit or housing benefit.
We can offer support towards a consultation at your vet, neutering and emergency care.
For help in an emergency or treatment we must be notified of the need for financial help within 48 hours otherwise we cannot help. Contact your vet initially or phone 07971 175491 for more information.
We are also able to listen if you want or need someone to talk over your concerns relating to your animal companion. Sometimes difficult decisions are better having voiced your worries into words to an outsider.
